Much to the embarrassment of my family, I made a bold post on social media after having an epiphany. Only in the infancy of my anti-racism work When I noticed people would acknowledge they have racism within them, but they wouldn't say it directly. Reminiscent of someone standing up at their first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and showing all of the same nerves, I went on TikTok stated the following . Hi, my name is Dan and I'm a racist. I have been in recovery for 30 plus years. Would anyone else like to share? For most of my life I was certain that I was NOT racist. How many racist people does that describe? Nearly all of them. Correction, nearly all of us. Imagine if people were to stop declaring themselves as “Not Racist”. After acknowledging my bias, prejudice, racism and attitudes of supremacy, I was able to dismantle and redefine everything I ever thought I knew about racism.
